Measure the space, not the box

The number on the listing is the outside. What you actually get is the inside, and the difference is the wall thickness plus the door frame. On a shed that can be four inches all round.

So measure the spot first — and leave clearance for the doors to open, plus a hand's width at the back so you can walk around it. Then read the second number in the spec table: interior dimensions.

The other one people miss is the floor. Most resin sheds include a floor panel; most metal ones do not, and want a level base you build yourself. It says which in the table. If it does not say, the maker did not publish it and we left the row out rather than guess.

07  Questions we actually get
01Do I need a base or a floor?+

Depends on the material. Resin sheds usually come with a floor panel and can sit on any flat, level surface. Metal sheds usually do not — they want a base you prepare first, most often a concrete pad or a pressure-treated timber frame. The spec table on each listing says which. If that row is missing, the maker did not publish it.

02How long does assembly take?+

A deck box or a storage bench is 20–40 minutes with a screwdriver. A walk-in shed is a half day for two people, and it is much easier with two — the wall panels are long and awkward alone. Tool chests arrive built; you fit the castors.

03Is it actually waterproof?+

Weather resistant, which is not the same thing. Rain runs off and the contents stay dry, but these are not sealed containers — air moves through, and in a cold snap you can get condensation inside. Cushions and tools are fine. Paper, electronics and anything that rusts want a lid box inside the box.

04Will it blow over?+

Anchor it. Most sheds ship with an anchor kit and every maker tells you to use it — an empty shed is a large light box with a flat side to the wind. Deck boxes are heavy enough once loaded, but anchor those too if you are on an exposed roof deck.

05How does something this big get delivered?+

Large items come by freight and arrive on a pallet at the kerb, not in your yard. Plan for someone to be there and for a way to move it — the cartons are heavy and long. Shipping is a flat $6.90, free on orders $200+, and you have 30 days to request a return for unused items.
